How To Zoom Good

As we all embrace video calling, this is an evolving list of tips for good remote collaboration on the video line. Feel free to submit more!

VIDEO ON. Be somewhere fixed, decent internet connectivity and video on.

HIDE SELF VIEW. Avoid the temptation to style yourself by hiding your own video.

SET AGENDA & TIMINGS. Avoid meandering so lay down some markers and intents.

MUTE ON. When you are not speaking. (Space bar unmutes temporarily)

HANDS UP. If you want to make a point - due to latency and timing it can be hard chip in.

DON’T BANG ON. Keep it punchy and make one point, it makes ‘conversation’ far easier.

PETS & KIDS. If a child or pet walks into view - don’t push them away, welcome them. We are humans - this is a beautiful way to show that down a digital line!

LISTEN HARD. Listen deeply and try to not talk too much, especially you extroverts out there!

KICK OFF TRICK. Explore a creative check in - one word / sentiment, song for the moment.

END OF THE CALL. End of the call round robin on what next, an action, a plan, a challenge

TIME: Running time of 45 minutes feels like a good amount to ensure attention - with a 15 minute overspill for further discussion, with those who want to stay on the line.
